Who We Are

  • We are seekers of God in every day life, sometimes certain and many times not.
  • We are people who may have been brought up in other faith traditions or none at all.
  • We are people of varying sexual orientation.
  • We are people who embrace the wonder and mystery offered by intersecting science and religion.
  • We are people of different races, including multi-racial families.
  • We respect other faith traditions, and some of our families are interfaith.
  • We are free to wrestle theologically without a doctrine of belief to which we all must subscribe.
  • We take care of each other.
  • We like to think and exchange ideas and opinions.
  • We value creativity and use the arts in many ways.

Progressive Students of Faith

Our student group seeks to unify spiritual progressives and strengthen the voice of progressive people of faith on campus. This group was established during the 2004 presidential election by students of faith who felt the Christian right was shutting out other faithful perspectives on politics and social issues.

Although we are a Cal student group and we consist primarily of Cal students, some of us are from other schools like Mills, Vista, DVC, and CCA.

Many of us call First Congregational Church of Berkeley, led by Pastors Patricia, Adam, Shelly, Phil and Charlotte, our home.
